Applied expertise in web services, storage, XML and eBusiness to lead investment evaluation projects on Shop.com, Alacritech, NetContinuum, Kana, VantageMed and Blue Martini. As a consultant served advisory boards for Azerity Corporation (Model N), Replicus Software, Totality Corporation (Verizon), Gorilla Logic and the board of directors of SAFE LP (funded by GE Capital).

Pioneered strategic workforce optimization, governance and project portfolio management solutions for enterprise IT and professional services. The company raised late stage funding from Sierra Ventures, raised $60 M in its IPO and then raised secondary financing from Warburg Pincus. As the lead independent director, was involved in Evolve’s initial public offering, refocusing strategy, transitioning new management, restructuring, secondary financings, NASDAQ listing issues, M&A, SEC disclosures, common shareholder interests and the eventual sale of the company to Primavera in 2003.

 

Sun Microsystems Inc., Palo Alto, CA

Vice President and General Manager, Sun Professional Services Worldwide


Recruited to restore impact and growth for Sun’s small professional services division (SunPS). Initiated and drove far reaching changes in strategy, sales, offering, marketing, product development, personnel and operations to achieve 6 years of 50% CAGR (twice the rate of Sun’s product business and all competitors) and build a respected, profitable $944 million business unit in 2001, from $30M in 1994. New professional service offerings dramatically improved Sun’s customers’ success with, and appetite for, Sun products. Contributed cumulatively over $2.5 billion in profitable consulting revenue and enabled $10-15 billion in product sales. Grew Professional Services revenue contribution to Sun’s business mix 10-fold to 5.6% from 0.5%. In 2001 IDC research identified this division as the largest UNIX platform integrator in the world, ahead of even IBM, HP, EDS etc. Responsibilities then included:

  • Sun’s worldwide consulting and system integration professional services from IT infrastructure solutions and IT operations services sold to CxOs of Global 5000 companies under ITIL based practices and service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Sun’s internal IT operations: $200 million IT, voice and data operations - over 5,000 servers, 160 TB and 30,000 desktops in Sun data centers, internal contact centers and campuses worldwide. Responsible for service delivery (early SaaS, cloud computing model), cost reduction and quality improvement under an SLA to the CIO of Sun.
  • Support and Maintenance Services: Call center, service resolution, warranty and certification processes for internal IT and for SunPS’ hardware/software solutions.
